Mountaineer Newsletter Update
OWRHS Members,
This notice is to advise all OWRHS members that the three issue per year
newsletter, "The Mountaineer" will now be produced by OWRHS members Ron
Vassallo, Mal Houck, Doug Barberio and Robert McCue.
A special thanks goes out to the Myers family for their efforts over the
past few years in keeping the Newsletter alive. They stepped in when no one
else wanted the task and they should be applauded for their enthusiasm, hard
work, and dedication.
The newsletter will, for at least the initial year be printed as an "Eight
Page - Self Mailer" by Shea Bros. Inc., printing of Somerville,
Massachusetts. Shea Bros. will be mailing directly from their printing
facility to OWRHS members.
Shea Bros. have printed the last two annual Observers, and have printed the
2010 Observer "Center Cabs and Kitchens" -- shortly to be mailed directly to
members.
The "New" Mountaineer will now have a new masthead, designed and drawn by
Carl Ohlson. . . OWRHS Artist Extraordinaire. It will be printed on 70#
paper, and the newsletter will be now able to provide photo images at high
resolution.
The new editors hope to be able to provide regular columns from
member-contributors. Along with OWRHS news of interest and messages from the
office of the President, and from the office of the Trustee Chairman,
regular columns as proposed for the future are:
* Collectors Corner (proposed to be contributed by Carl Ohlson and George
Shammas)
* Modeling the O&W - Modeling News (Mal Houck, Al Seebach, Bill Schneider)
* O&W Ramblings (several contributors)
* OWRHS Calendar of Events (Doug Barberio)
* "Along the O&W - O&W Now - (Ray Kelly) - "O&W Memories" (Doug Barberio)
* Archives Report - Jeff Otto
Due to the limitations of space and content not every column will
necessarily appear in every single issue, but every effort will be made to
provide some regularity and continuity of these features, along with the
editors options to pre-empt features for news of current interest and value.
So far as the labors have been divided, Mal Houck will supervise editorial
content initially with input for Ron Vassallo and Carl Ohlson. Layout will
be done by Ron Vassallo, who will then transmit a finished issue edition to
the printer electronically.
Submissions for inclusion may be sent to Ron Vassallo via e-mail to
nyow@owrhs.org. For articles submitted by mail please contact Ron first and
a mailing address will be provided, please do not use the O&WRHS P.O. Box as
this will only cause delay.
For the first issue, for delivery during the month of August 2011, the
deadline for submissions is July 25, 2011. Future deadlines will be
published in the Newsletter, issue by issue; -- with an anticipated date for
next publication. We will also have information posted on the Website, Yahoo
Groups and Facebook.
Written text submissions should be sent as attachments in MS Word format
(.doc) if at all possible but if this is a problem please contact Ron for
additional formats and he will assist in getting your submissions over as
smoothly as possible. Photo images should likewise be sent as attachments in
.tiff format and scanned at a minimum of 300 dpi - Gray Scale on a photo
scanner (Please, no copy machine or document scanner images). If you have an
article that is not in a digital format and would like to have it considered
we can most likely accomodate your submission if you can send a printed copy
of the text along with scanned copies of the photos reproduced on photo
paper at Staples, Kinkos, etc. No originals please unless arrangements are
made in advance.
Sincerely, your new Mountaineer Editors!
The Mountaineer Heading Northbound through the Highview Tunnel.
